In the summer of 2007, Harvard Law Professor Elizabeth Warren published an essay in Democracy calling for an agency to help protect consumers from predatory financial products — an effort that would later become law in the form of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

On November 6, after months of tough campaigning, she was elected to be the next senator from Massachusetts. This is a truly impressive record of achievement for any progressive leader, let alone one just entering electoral politics. We at Democracy want to congratulate Senator-elect Warren on her victory and wish her as much success in Washington as she’s had outside of it.
